Just a 30-minute boat ride from Bali, lies the little paradise island of Nusa Lembongan. It’s super laidback, very different from busy Bali, and it’s got lots of beautiful beaches, stunning viewpoints & bars made for lazy afternoon sunset drinks!
We have been to Nusa Lembongan many times over the years and we always come back to it if we feel like a holiday within a holiday! We’ve made a list of our highlights, these are our favorite things to do in Nusa Lembongan:
Devil’s Tear
Devil’s tear is one of these places that, no matter how many times you have visited, remains fascinating. It’s a very rugged piece of coastline, with sharp pointy rocks created by the waves crashing into them again and again. The rocks are shaped in such a way that when the waves hit them just right, water splashes everywhere soaking unsuspecting tourists.
How spectacular the show is varies a lot, depending on the tide and the level of the water. If you can see the splashes every now and then from the parking lot, you know it’s going to be good!

Blue Lagoon
Located on the other side of the big yellow bridge connecting Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan, you’ll find the blue lagoon. It’s definitely one of the most picturesque places on the island with its water being a million shades of blue. There are 3 different point from which you can see it.
The first one is just to drive to the point in google that marks ‘Blue Lagoon Parkplatz’ on the left side of the road driving towards ‘Mahana surf point’. There is a little view point right at the beginning, but you can also walk a bit further on the rocks, just be careful.
The second one is a little bit more difficult to find, but easy once you know where you need to be. Find Ron’s Ceningan house on google and you’ll notice there is a small path right across the road from it. Follow that path (park your motorbike somewhere at the beginning, as it’s a bit too narrow to drive) and go down the rocky steps at the end. You’ll end up on the rocks on the other side of the lagoon for a completely different view. There is even a cliff jumping point in case you’re feeling really brave, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to get back up, so do this at your own risk.
Also, make sure you don’t get too close to the edge, on time when we were there I was sitting on the edge and a huge waves came out of nowhere which could have dragged me into the water! Be very careful, the ocean can seem calm one moment and be wild the next.
Aside from the viewpoints you can also choose to have a look at the lagoon while sipping a drink or having lunch at Klyf club blue lagoon!
Beaches
In all honesty, the beaches in Bali can be a little bit disappointing if you expected white sand and blue water. But the beaches in Nusa Lembongan, they’re definitely up to tropical island standards!
Dream beach is probably the most beautiful one. It’s right next to Devil’s Tear, and when you arrive you have a beautiful view over the little bay. Its great for sunbathing and playing in the waves for a bit, but be careful as the sea is usually pretty rough here!
Have a drink at Pandan café looking over the bay or use their beautiful pool if you prefer that (they usually let you use it for free when you order something).
Jungut Batu is one of the beaches most boats from Bali arrive at. It can get pretty busy with boats, but it’s a big beach so there is plenty of room for relaxing and swimming. There are lots of beach bars, restaurants and beach clubs here and since the sun sets on this side of the island, it’s the perfect place for a happy hour cocktail at the end of the day.
The beach is always enjoyable, but at its most beautiful and convenient for swimming at high tide, as when the water level drops it gets more rocky.
The other beach boats from Bali arrive at, is Mushroom beach. It’s a stunning little bay and perfect for swimming and relaxing, were it not for the fact that the boats take up most of the space. During the day however, the right side of the bay is usually clear and fine for swimming!
Sunset Spots
The deck
All the way in the corner of Jungutbatu beach, you’ll find a couple of restaurants and bars with stunning beach views. And even better, you’ll be able to catch the sunset from here! Make sure you arrive well before the sunset, because it can get quite busy and there aren’t that many seats at the balcony.
Cloudland bar
Cloudland bar is one of those places you’ll find yourself coming back to. It’s a simple little bar on top of a cliff, with some bean bags spread out over their lawn and a spectacular sunset & ocean view! The perfect spot for a beer at the end of the day.
This road leading to Cloudland is a bit steep and tricky, but just keep going. I promise it’s worth it!
Jungutbatu
There are very few things that beat watching the sunset at the beach, sand between your toes, a cold drink in your hand and the sound of the waves in the background. This beach is absolutely perfect for that, with many different beach bars to choose from! We often sit down at Agus Shipwreck restaurant and bar, next to Indiana, which is a great spot with nice bean bags and affordable prices.
Sandy bay beach club
Sandy bay beach club is a perfect place to spend the afternoon. You can’t see the actual sunset from here, as the sun sets behind the rocks, but the sun is visible until around 6 and it’s still an awesome spot to hang out!
Devils tear
Devil’s tear is beautiful all day long, but even more so at sunset! You can walk all the way to the far end, and have a perfect sunset view. Bring a towel (to sit on, the rocks are very pointy!) and some drinks, and enjoy!
